In the wake of a heartbreaking tragedy, our neighboring community needs our support now more than ever. Join us as we come together to lend a helping hand by relieving some of the financial burden. We are going to host Penny Wars starting 10/9 thru 10/14 to help the Shields Valley families. If your child asks for a few coins this would be the reason. If you can share, please do so. Let the game begin.

Tomorrow, we kick off College Application Week in Hornet Country! Teachers will be sharing their own alma maters and experiences throughout all grade levels, and we encourage parents to do the same. Seniors and parents are encouraged to attend the College Application Night on Tuesday evening, and all are encouraged to sport their college pride on Friday. Questions regarding the week and applying for colleges (and more!) can be directed to our School Counselor, Ms. Tiffany.

The 4 Day School Week needs assessment was sent earlier this week through the school text messaging system. This survey is to assess the needs of our students and families for the upcoming semester January-May 2025. If you did not fill this out online and would like to provide feedback, please come in to the school on or before Monday October 7th to fill out the survey. You can also opt IN to the school’s messaging system to receive surveys and other important school information by calling our front office (406) 547-3751. There will be another community survey after the first of the year to determine the sustainability of the 4 Day School Week.

There was an assembly held to recognize our students progress. Also known as our "One Smart Cookie" Assembly. Our ACT scores for the graduating class of 2025 is 21.3 and the state average is 19.4. Our students grades 3-8 increased English Language Arts 8.6% in the 2023 testing from the previous year. An increase of 10.5% was made in math. We hope to continue our upward trend of scores through appropriate curriculum, increased professional development for staff, increased attendance by students and fidelity to programs. Our B.E.E. Award winner, Ruth Holmes made all our students cookies for breakfast! Thank you Ruth for always going the extra mile for our students. Way to go staff and students.

Juniors and seniors attended the annual college fair yesterday afternoon at Carroll College, and they represented Hornet Country very well! They asked great questions and enjoyed exploring their options, both in and out of the state of Montana.

Just a reminder, with rain and cooler temperatures in the forecast for the rest of this week, please make sure students have weather appropriate clothing to be outside for recess.

Just when you thought we were done celebrating our employee's, we need to let you know of some we value a great deal. We have three paraprofessionals working in the district that we couldn't live without. Holly Gilman works with our Resource room. She helps our students with work in the classroom, in the Resource room and everywhere in between. Her big smile, but firm manner let students know they are cared for and need to follow the rules. Tom Graham has returned in a new capacity. Mr. Tom our beloved custodian has now become our 2nd/3rd grade helper. He can be seen helping tie shoes, teach reading and help in the lunchroom. Maxine Britt is assisting at the Attendance Center. She is a willing and able helper to students in grades 1-8. Thank you for your willingness to take on tough jobs.
